Thank you Linda, this is my viewing for tonight & possibly some of tomorrow as well.. Always been interested in the theories surrounding Jack the Ripper, so I will certainly enjoy this.

Many thanks for that - I thought I had heard the names of all the chief suspects before I watched that - but all the ones mentioned I don't think I had ever heard before!

It skimped on a few details - eg. the Goulston Street graffito: 'The Juwes are the men that will not be blamed for nothing' which was swiftly scrubbed by the higher echelons of the Met. The documentary on Jack that was the first to inspire me on this suite of murders was the one in the 1980s that linked the spelling 'Juwes' with the masonic 'Jubila, Jubilo, Jubilum'. The author of the book that was the basis of the documentary postulated that Jack was three people, one being Walter Sickert, the Queen's surgeon, another I think was Robert Anderson of the Met or perhaps it was the top person - Charles Warren(?) - in the Met himself (I can't remember), and another whose name I have forgotten but he was a coachman who was always looking for a leg-up on the social hierarchy.

Later documentaries, of course, have put forward outwardly convincing cases for the American Francis Tumbletee and for James Mabrick, among others.

The canonical five Ripper victims are Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes, and Mary Jane Kelly:

Dates of Murder

August 31st 1888 – Friday – Moon Waxing –Moon in Gemini

September 8th 1888 – Saturday – Moon Waning – Moon in Libra

September 30th 1888 – Sunday – Moon Waxing – Moon in Pisces

November 9th 1888 – Friday – Moon Waning Moon in Sagittarius

All the dates are for the weekend. There was a rumour that a member of the Pickford Moving Company was responsible for the murders.
